Oast House and Daffodils, Piltdown

Oust House and Daffs, painting by Philomena Harmsworth, en plein aire

As soon as the sun releases us from our cold box of Winter I must paint the effects it has on my surroundings. When these explosions of life burst, they completely transform the naked Earth and trees in their browns and greys. The fluorescent greens and yellows of new life, being the colour of straining forth in absolute earnest, are backed by soft gentle earthy colours the new light has given our, still lingering, lately terrorised, earth and sky.

Drawing from life is a lesson on fathoming dreams. I had my feet freezing on the cold earth and my face bathed in sunshine, I felt like a daffodil! These experiences feed the narrative of the paintings.

I simply must own this painting
