Prayers in the Streetlight

Prayers in the Streetlight, oil painting by Philomena Harmsworth

“Prayers in the Streetlight”, was named after a quote from Coolio’s song: “Gangster’s Paradise”. The song is about the imprisoning cycle of gangland poverty and family life. A psalm is quoted: ‘though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death’, adding a religious twist, Coolio illuminates the futility of this cycle.
