The First Violin (Fine Art Prints)

a painting of a chambre auchestra

This Piece is to capture the experience of sitting amidst a chamber orchestra in full swing. The second violin, viola and cellist are all there, synchronising their cues by looks. The viola player is looking directly out of the picture at the viewer; that and the presence of sheet music leads you to conclude that there is a fourth player: the first violin. The first violin is sitting outside the realm of the painted surface, could they be you?

The orchestra is all strings. Strings reverberate something along the same wavelengths as human beings. The noise made by a violin is often likened to the human voice, and with the right combination of notes and phrases, can sweep us away to the origins of that sound, then onto the next… and the next… The scene is a furnace. The only thing that is still is the concentration of the eyes, intent and engaging: an invitation to join in with the trance.
