In “Two of Hearts”, a mother lovingly embroiders her beautiful daughter’s dress. The story of the mother becomes the story of the daughter, which is illustrated in symbols encircling them both. The red thread and tailors scissors are borrowed from Lorca’s powerful symbol system in “Blood Weddings”, where the red thread represents life. This delightful and warm image is undercut by the presence of those scissors, but it does appear however, that both women seem to have both feet planted firmly on the ground.
